Liu Yi


Liu Yi is Associate Professor of history at Shanghai University. He received his BA and MA in history respectively from Shanxi Normal University and Shanghai University, and a PhD in religious studies from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (2008). In the 2010-11 academic year, he was a post-doctoral fellow at Berkley Center for Religion, Peace and World Affairs, Georgetown University. And from 2013 to 2016, he acted as the Chinese Director of Confucius Institute at Boğaziçi University, Turkey.

His research and teaching focuses on history of religion and comparative religions (Confucianism, Christianity and Islam), religion and globalization, religion and violence, etc.

He has published two monographs, Religion and Politics in a Global Context (Shanghai, 2011) and Globalization, Public Religions, and Secularism: A Comparative Study of Christianity and Islam (Shanghai, 2013). He is also co-editor of Religious Philanthropy and Public Welfare in China (Shanghai, 2012) and Blue Books of Turkey (2014-2016).
