Ángel Alcalde

Ángel Alcalde earned his PhD in History and Civilization from the European University Institute (Florence, Italy) in 2015. In recent years, he was a visiting scholar at the European Institute at Columbia University (New York), and at the Leibniz-Institute of European History (Mainz, Germany). Prior to joining the Center for the History of Global Development at Shanghai University, Alcalde was a Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellow at LMU Munich. Alcalde specializes on the social and cultural history of war, transnational and global history. His latest book, War Veterans and Fascism in Interwar Europe, was published by Cambridge University Press in 2017. Alcalde has also published numerous works on the Spanish Civil War and the Franco dictatorship. Currently, he is broadly interested in analyzing the relationship between warfare and globalization in the twentieth century. He is co-editing a volume on War Veterans and the World after 1945: Cold War Politics, Decolonization, Memory (Routledge, forthcoming).
